A Message from the Dean

Welcome to the Yale School of Public Health!

For over a century, YSPH’s faculty, staff, alumni, and students have shaped how people across the globe study and practice public health. We are facing new health threats today, ranging from environmental exposures to AI.

At YSPH, we are working to solve these challenges, both old and new.

Last year, our YSPH community both recommitted to our historical roots and declared a bold new roadmap for the future in our 2025–2030 Strategic Plan. Through this plan, we are redesigning public health tools, systems, and partnerships to meet the demands of the moment—whether around climate change, social epidemics, the cost of health care, inequitable data, or trust in science itself.

By pursuing your studies here, you are becoming a part of this transformative approach to our field. And as you peruse this bulletin, I encourage you to think about how your courses will help prepare you for the challenges of today and of tomorrow.

You will have the opportunity to take classes from some of the world’s greatest leaders in the science and practice of our field. You will be part of a community that shares your drive for both rigor and impact. And you will be supported in creating your own pathways to develop data-driven systems change, on levels ranging from the cellular to the political. I know that your peers and instructors will match your enthusiasm and your commitment to learning, allowing you to step into the next stage of your career prepared to make a difference.

I also invite you to take advantage of the many intersectional paths that YSPH and Yale provide. Take classes at, and work with, students and faculty at other Yale schools (such as management, law, divinity, architecture, and more). Engage with our outstanding network of alumni and visiting scholars. Turn towards your classmates with curiosity, creativity, and empathy. Be part of our collective vision for the future of this field: linking science and society, making public health foundational for communities everywhere.

We are so glad you are joining us. The demand for a next generation of diverse, methodologically rigorous, innovative public health leaders has never been more evident. Together, we can create a healthier tomorrow, in partnership with communities across the globe.
